Register an account in Zoiper

Zoiper is a free softphone for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. This tutorial registers one FlySIP account in Zoiper 5 and checks that it can call. Allow about 10 minutes. Other softphones need the same three values: user name, password and the domain of your switch.

  • The account exists, Registration Allowed is checked on it, and you have its Account Name and password. See Accounts.
  • You know the domain name or IP address of your switch, for example sip.example.net.
  • Zoiper is installed from zoiper.com.

If the account uses Separate VoIP Login and VoIP password, you also need its VoIP Login and VoIP Password; Zoiper then uses the VoIP password instead of the account password.

  1. Start Zoiper. On the first screen choose the free version or sign in with your Zoiper license.
  2. In Username / login enter the account name and the domain of the switch: 1001@sip.example.net.
  3. In Password enter the account’s password, or the VoIP Password if the account has a separate one.
  4. Click Login.

Result: Zoiper asks for the host name of the provider.

  1. In Hostname / provider enter the domain or IP address of the switch, for example sip.example.net. Add :port only if your switch does not use 5060.
  2. Click Next.
  3. On the Authentication and Outbound proxy screen click Skip if the account has no separate VoIP login. Otherwise tick Authentication, enter the VoIP Login as the auth user name and click Next.

Result: Zoiper tests the transports.

  1. Wait until Zoiper lists the transports it found. SIP UDP is the one the switch accepts by default.
  2. Select SIP UDP and click Next.

Result: the account appears in Zoiper with a green status.

  1. In the panel open My Customers → Accounts. The status icon of the account is a green check; hover over it to see the softphone’s user agent and address.
  2. Dial a number from Zoiper.
  3. Open Reports → Call Records (CDRs) and find the call with its cost.
  • Accounts: balance, credit limit and the other settings of the account.
  • Quickstart: retail: set up prepaid users from start to finish.
