Connections
A connection is one gateway of a vendor: the address the switch sends INVITEs to, how it authenticates, how many calls it may carry and how the numbers and SIP headers are shaped on the way out. Routing groups pair connections with termination routes, so every connection you want to use in routing needs at least one. See Routing.
Where to find it
Section titled “Where to find it”Open Vendors → Vendors and click Connections in the row of the vendor, or open the Connections tab of the vendor form. The URL is /connections.php?i_vendor=<id>. Anyone who can open the screen can add, edit and delete connections; there are no per-action rights.
What you see
Section titled “What you see”| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Status | Check icon for Active, ban icon for Connection is Blocked |
| Name | The connection’s name, linking to the form |
| Destination | Protocol and address, for example SIP/UDP:sip.example-carrier.net:5060 |
| CLD Translation Rule | Rewrite rule for the called number, shortened |
| CLI Translation Rule | Rewrite rule for the calling number, shortened |
The Connection Name filter matches any part of the name. Each row has Open CDRs, SIP TLS Options for TLS connections, and Delete. There is no block action in the list; blocking is the Blocked switch in the form.
Create a connection
Section titled “Create a connection”- Click Add Connection.
- Enter Connection Name.
- Select Protocol: SIP/UDP, SIP/TCP or SIP/TLS. SIP/TLS appears once an SSL certificate exists under System Management → SSL Management.
- Enter Destination: the host name or IP of the gateway, with
:portwhen it is not5060. - Enter Username and Password if the vendor authenticates you by SIP digest. Leave both empty for IP authentication and give the vendor your signalling IP instead.
- Set Capacity and Max CPS to the limits of your agreement. Empty means unlimited.
- Click Save & Close.
Then add a termination route for the vendor and pair both in a routing group. See Quickstart: wholesale.
The connection form
Section titled “The connection form”Fields marked SIP are disabled for H.323 and IAX2 connections.
Basic Parameters
Section titled “Basic Parameters”| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Connection Name | Display name |
| Protocol | SIP/UDP (default), SIP/TCP, SIP/TLS; H.323 and IAX2 where enabled |
| Username, Password SIP | SIP digest credentials for calls to the vendor. Clearing the password on edit removes it |
| Destination | Host or IP of the gateway, optionally with :port |
| Max CPS | Call attempts per second sent to this connection. Empty means unlimited |
| Capacity | Simultaneous calls on this connection. Empty means unlimited |
| Use Media Relay SIP | When Necessary (default), Always or Never. See Media relay |
| Enforce Capacity | Rejects new calls above Capacity instead of only counting them |
| Blocked | Takes the connection out of routing. Calls in progress are not affected |
Advanced Parameters
Section titled “Advanced Parameters”| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Send Identity As | Off (default), P-Asserted-Identity or Remote-Party-ID: the header that carries the caller identity to the vendor |
| Reply Timeout, sec | Seconds to wait for the first SIP reply before trying the next connection. Default 5 |
| Huntstop SIP Codes SIP | Comma-separated response codes, for example 486,603, after which the switch stops hunting and returns the code to the caller |
| Outbound Proxy SIP | Proxy the INVITE is sent to while the request URI keeps the Destination |
| Outbound IP SIP | Source IP of the signalling. [ Auto ] by default; choosing an IP forces Single Outbound Port on |
| Preferred Media Relay SIP | Which media relay to use when one is needed. Greyed out when Use Media Relay is Never |
| Redirect Depth Limit SIP | How many chained 3xx redirects to follow, 1 to 20. Active with Accept 3xx Redirects |
| From Domain SIP | Domain written into the From header instead of the switch’s IP |
| Allowed RURI Params. | Comma-separated request URI parameters passed to the vendor, for example user. Others are dropped |
| Trusted Privacy Domain | Treat the vendor as trusted for privacy headers. On by default |
| Use CLI As Identity SIP | Put the CLI into the asserted-identity header |
| Use Identity As CLI | Replace the CLI with the asserted identity received from the caller |
| Single Outbound Port SIP | Send everything from port 5060. On by default and locked for TCP, TLS and a fixed Outbound IP |
| Enable Diversion SIP | Add a Diversion header to forwarded calls. See Diversion header support |
| Random Call-Id SIP | Generate a new Call-ID towards the vendor instead of reusing the caller’s |
| Accept 3xx Redirects SIP | Follow 3xx responses from the vendor. See Support for 3xx redirects |
| Ignore LRN SIP | Skip number-portability lookup for this connection. See LRN dipping |
Number Translation
Section titled “Number Translation”| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| CLD Translation Rule | Rewrites the called number before sending, for example s/^00/+/ |
| CLI Translation Rule | Rewrites the calling number |
| Identity Tr. Rule SIP | Rewrites the asserted identity. An empty result drops the header |
| Diversion Header Tr. Rule SIP | Rewrites the Diversion number. Active with Enable Diversion |
Rules use the switch’s s/pattern/replacement/ syntax. See Number translation and Translation rule examples.
Quality Monitoring
Section titled “Quality Monitoring”| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Monitor ACD Quality, ACD Threshold, sec | Flag the connection when the average call duration drops below the threshold. Default 30 |
| Monitor ASR Quality, ASR Threshold, % | Flag it when the answer-seizure ratio drops below the threshold. Default 15.0 |
| Monitor PDD Quality, PDD Threshold, sec | Flag it when the post-dial delay rises above the threshold. Default 2.0 |
| Statistics Window | Number of recent calls the metrics are computed on. Default 20 |
| Retry Interval, sec | How long a flagged connection waits before it is tested again. Default 600 |
| Retry Batch | Number of calls sent through a flagged connection to re-measure it. Default 10 |
| Bad Quality Action | Make Last In Routing (default), Block or Notify Only |
| Notify On Status Change | E-mail the operator when the connection changes between good and bad |
See Quality-based routing for the recovery algorithm.
Block a connection
Section titled “Block a connection”Open the connection, switch Blocked on and click Save. New calls skip the connection; the list shows Connection is Blocked. Switch it off to return the connection to service. The quality monitor’s Block action blocks a connection the same way and unblocks it after a successful retry batch.
Delete a connection
Section titled “Delete a connection”Click Delete in the row and confirm. There is no warning about routing groups: entries that pair the connection with a termination route stop matching, so open the routing groups that used it and replace or remove the entry.
