Set up top-up cards
A top-up card is a prepaid account whose balance is transferred to the caller’s calling card instead of being spent on calls. The transfer is done by the Top-Up sub-application of the Calling Card IVR: the caller enters the top-up card number from the menu, or dials a dedicated number that starts the top-up flow directly. At the end of this tutorial a user tops up a card from the IVR menu and from a separate access number. Allow 30 minutes.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- A working calling card product. See Set up a calling card product.
- A second DID if you want a dedicated top-up number.
Step 1: Create the top-up cards
Section titled “Step 1: Create the top-up cards”- Prepare the same kind of file as for the calling cards, with
Account Name= the top-up card number,VoIP Password= its PIN,Balance= the value,Credit Limit0andBatch Tagtopup-2026-05. The accounts need a Service Plan and a Routing Group, but they are never used for calls. - Open My Customers → Accounts, click Upload… and load the file.
Result: the top-up batch is listed with its values as Balance.
Step 2: Enable top-up in the calling card application
Section titled “Step 2: Enable top-up in the calling card application”- Open DIDs & IVR Apps → IVR Applications and open the calling card application.
- Under Advanced Parameters add Enable Top-Up feature:
True, Top-Up Card Length: the digits of your top-up cards, and Top Up Menu Extension: the number the caller dials from the main menu to reach the top-up menu, for example*2. - Click Save & Close.
Result: a caller who authenticated with a calling card can dial the extension, enter a top-up card number and hear the new balance. The top-up card’s balance moves to the calling card and the top-up card is emptied.
Step 3: Add a dedicated top-up number
Section titled “Step 3: Add a dedicated top-up number”A dedicated number runs the Calling Card application in top-up-only mode, which is selected by rewriting the dialled number.
- Open DIDs & IVR Apps → DID Pool and click Add.
- Enter the DID and the provider’s Incoming DID/CLD, Vendor and Connection as for the access number.
- Set DID Translation Rule to
s/.*/cctopup/. Append the languages to offer, for examples/.*/cctopup_en_es/. - Click Assigned to, select the calling card IVR application and click Save & Close.
The option topup in the dialled number starts the Top-Up sub-application instead of the main loop, with everything else disabled. Other application options can be appended the same way; the full list is in Calling Card IVR application.
Result: calls to the dedicated number ask for the calling card and the top-up card and announce the new balance.
Step 4: Test it
Section titled “Step 4: Test it”- Note the balance of a test calling card in My Customers → Accounts.
- Call the access number, authenticate, dial the top-up extension and enter a top-up card number.
- Call the dedicated top-up number and repeat with a second top-up card.
- Check the account balances: the calling card gained both values, the top-up cards are at zero. The transfers appear in Payments → Sales Reports as payments to the calling card account.
Result: users can top up by phone with cards you sell separately.
