On-net routing
On-net routing delivers a call from one of your accounts to another without a vendor: the switch recognises that the dialled number belongs to an account on the same switch and sends the call straight to that account’s device. It saves the termination cost, keeps the call quality under your control and lets unanswered calls go to voicemail. It is set per routing group, so you decide which accounts may reach each other.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”-
Check the routing group. The switch takes the routing group of the caller, the account’s own or the one an authentication rule sets. On its On-Net Routing tab, Use Connection must be other than [ Disabled ], the value of a new group. With [ Disabled ] every call is routed through the routing entries to vendors.
-
Match the number. After the caller’s translation rules, the switch looks for an account whose Account Name equals the dialled number, or a DID with a Late authentication rule. A DID leads to the account or IVR application it is assigned to. See DID pool.
-
Check the scope. On-Net Scope of the group limits which accounts the caller may reach, by their place in the customer tree:
On-Net Scope The caller reaches All Accounts Every account on the switch Reseller and Sub-Resellers Accounts of the caller’s own customer and of all customers below it Reseller Only Accounts of the caller’s own customer only A number outside the scope is not on-net for this caller and is routed to vendors like any other number.
-
Deliver the call. With [ Default ] the call goes to the device the callee has registered on the built-in registrar, or wherever the callee’s Incoming Routing sends it: a trunk, Follow Me numbers. With a specific Vendor / Connection, the switch hands on-net calls to that connection instead, for example to an external registrar or PBX. Reply Timeout, sec (
5), 1xx Timeout, sec (10) and 2xx Timeout, sec (60) on the same tab apply to on-net legs instead of the timeouts of connections and routes. -
Send unanswered calls to voicemail. Voicemail Connection sends a call that the callee does not answer to the built-in voicemail ([ Default ]) or to a voicemail system behind a connection. The callee needs voicemail turned on; its VM Timeout (sec) sets how long the phone rings first. [ Disabled ] turns voicemail off for on-net calls of the group.
On-net calls are rated by the special prefixes onnet_out and onnet_in of the accounts’ tariffs, not by the dialled number. See Charging on-net calls.
Key terms
Section titled “Key terms”- Account — a SIP identity owned by a customer that originates and receives calls and carries its own balance.
- Routing Group — a named set of routing rules assigned to a customer or account.
- Connection — a route to a vendor (SIP host, port, protocol, codecs) used by routing to send calls.
- Reseller — a customer that resells services to its own customers using its own tariffs and branding.
- Sub-reseller — a sub-customer that resells further to its own customers.
- Trunk — a SIP link between two systems carrying many simultaneous calls.
Common scenarios
Section titled “Common scenarios”Extensions of a hosted PBX call each other by short numbers
Section titled “Extensions of a hosted PBX call each other by short numbers”Name the accounts by their extensions, 1001, 1002 and so on, set Use Connection to [ Default ] and On-Net Scope to Reseller Only in the routing group of the PBX customer. Extension 1001 reaches 1002 on the switch, and accounts of other customers with the same names stay out of reach.
Two resellers must not call each other’s users
Section titled “Two resellers must not call each other’s users”Give each reseller a routing group with On-Net Scope Reseller and Sub-Resellers. Calls inside one reseller’s tree stay on-net; calls to the other reseller’s numbers leave through vendors, or fail if no route matches.
On-net calls must reach an external PBX
Section titled “On-net calls must reach an external PBX”Select the PBX’s connection in Use Connection. The switch still recognises the on-net call and rates it as on-net, but delivers it to the connection instead of the built-in registrar.
A call between two accounts goes to a vendor
Section titled “A call between two accounts goes to a vendor”Run the call in Tools & Debugs → Test Dialplan with the caller’s account in Authenticated as. Call Type shows On-Net and the On-Net Account when the call stays on the switch. Regular means it does not: check Use Connection and On-Net Scope of the caller’s routing group and the caller’s translation rules. See Test Dialplan.
